Ok so this was an April Fools joke. But believe it or not kulula’s attempt to trademark the sky did have a few people going for a while. The announcement came the week after kulula made headlines around the world for its cheeky new advertising campaign and the subsequent unamused reaction from FIFA. For April Fools we issued a release claiming to have trademarked the sky between 10000 ft and 35000 ft. We also produced a handy PDF guide to the trademark rules (which looked suspiciously similar to FIFAs own guidelines). The result was coverage in Business Report and the Mail & Guardian amongst other places. There was also a ton of comments on Twitter and Facebook.
