Who we are

Atmosphere Communications creates integrated communications campaigns for some of South Africa’s leading brands and companies. Our work is grounded in the true meaning of public relations – relating to the public.

We mix traditional public relations, social media and creative marketing tactics for our consumer and corporate clients. Our ideas result in creative and engaging talking points that go beyond the normal conventions relied on in PR. It’s not just us saying this – in 2009 we were the most awarded agency at the PRISMs (South Africa’s PR industry awards) and recognised for our bold convention-busting campaigns that deliver real business results.

Founded in 2001, the team now comprises 20 individuals who work nationally from offices in Johannesburg and Cape Town.

The Team

Atmosphere is home to a team of creative, dynamic and highly skilled consultants. From diverse professional backgrounds, we each bring unique strengths and outlooks and we share a common passion for achieving exceptional results for our clients. Great emphasis is placed on mentorship and training and we really cherish our (mostly) relaxed, enabling working environment.

If you believe you have the knowledge, experience and personal attributes to join the Atmosphere team, send us your CV by e-mail to info@atmosphere.co.za.

The Atmosphere Manifesto

Atmosphere’s DNA

Our ‘atmosphere’: At our core we are dynamic, innovative and trend-setting. We have integrity and our values have stayed consistent over time. We like to surprise our clients with great ideas and deliver extraordinary results, be it a change in perception, publicity, brand-building or virtual experiences.

We’re deadline-driven and go the extra mile for clients and peers. We’re funky, sometimes wacky, often vibey and always up-beat and energetic. This, peppered with an unrelenting quest for fun and professionalism, gives us the ‘wow’ factor.

Who is an Atmospherian? Atmospherians are a rare breed who share a distinctive set of characteristics: fiercely creative, jovial, independent, hard-core at work and play, client-centric, aims for the stars and settles for nothing less than a galaxy, delivers the unexpected, leads a balanced lifestyle and is a strong person.

PR is…..PR doesn’t stand for press release. We believe Public Relations is anything that helps our clients relate to the public and vice versa. It’s not just about media clippings, it’s about achieving real business results by the best means available.

At Atmosphere, we go out of our way to deliver a coherent and informed voice to the media, stakeholders and organisations on behalf of our clients. We take our work seriously and our approach is holistic, strategic and creative. Rooted in understanding and helping clients meet their business objectives, we like to push boundaries and exceed our previous best.

We adapt well, are at the forefront of using new technologies and believe digital is a ‘must’ in most contemporary communications campaigns.

We listen to each other and tap into a shared creative melting pot at internal brainstorms. Tracking what they say overseas (but always having our own view), we’re aware of international trends and build them into our writing, angles and media savvy. And, whatever we do, we deliver on time, on budget and surpass expectations.

Team spirit: Teamwork is at our core and like any good relationship, we communicate regularly, trust each other, are non-judgmental, hang-out together, get a little crazy, encourage, listen and support each other when times are tough.

Our three-tiered approach allows us to grow as consultants. We mentor each other and offer tips and advice. We learn new things from every one in the group and are open-minded to try something new. Individual’s skills are allocated to the right client. And everyone has an opportunity to ‘shine’ by bringing their likes and talents to the table and own projects within a client.

Our Clients: We like our clients. And we aim to have our clients like us. We make a point of understanding their business and what makes them tick. Our clients believe in PR and know it’s not just a nice-to-have. They trust our judgment, are market leaders, are open to try new things that are out-of-the-box and work with us to help us achieve extraordinary results.

The Media: We know how the media works. We motivate great angles, adhere to deadlines, know their likes and dislikes and offer insightful and newsworthy content.

Our Suppliers: We want good suppliers to want to work with us. So we’re professional, provide clear briefs and supply accurate information to ensure the job is done to the best of our - and their - abilities.

The Creative Hub: It’s our mission to prove PR can be as creative as any other marketing discipline. Imagination is everything. And at Atmosphere, we strive to always beat our last great idea. We’re always on the look out for something fresh, innovative and off-the-wall.

We brainstorm, share ideas, think, think and think some more. We invent and mould ideas to deliver rocking campaigns that have ‘edge’ and longevity.
