Atmosphere were recently involved in the media launch of DStv BoxOffice, the first satellite based video on demand service in South Africa.
Media and DStv VIPs were treated to a true Hollywood style event staged at Tintswalo at Waterfall Estate, where guests heard from various DStv spokespeople, tested the product and mingled with movie characters, while the media were given the opportunity to have one-on-one interviews with the DStv representatives to get their individual comments on the launch.
The event was followed ... Read More

We recently submitted some trends for Advantage magazine's 2011 trends issue. There were some slightly odd copy edits (highlighted below) in the magazine so this is what we actually said:
Consumer experience:
The rise of social media, in particular Twitter, is turning consumer experience into one of the biggest marketing tools. When consumer’s really hate or really like an experience they share it. When they come across something innovative or different during their experience they take a picture of it and tell someone. As ... Read More

Interesting observation:
While checking out analytics for one of the social media campaigns we’re running at Atmosphere: the brands facebook fan page has 20,000 members (its been running a while) the still new twitter group has about 160. Yet the traffic coming to our microsite is roughly equal from the two places despite very similar content being posted. My shoddy maths makes 1 twitterer worth 125 facebookers for this brand. My take on it is this:

Atmosphere’s Pheliswa recently starred in a True Love advertorial for our newly expanded client Sanlam (previously we did work only for the investments cluster). Giving very valuable tips on getting out of debt, the advertorial is part of a series offering guidance to True Love readers on managing their finances. Phely seems to have missed her calling – if only she had a (good) few more inches in height…

We recently invited business and trade media to take a spin on kulula's flight simulator in Jo'burg. This was part of a morning which included a meeting with joint CEOs Gidon and Erik, a tour around the Operations Centre and finally an attempted take-off and landing at Jo'burg airport (simulated of course). Atmosphere also had a quick go (thanks kulula!!) with uh mixed results, but at least everyone could walk away and that's the main thing (even if we parked the plane ... Read More

This just appeared in The Annual:
Having worked at an online PR agency when the web 1.0 bubble burst in the late nineties, and being aware that our industry has a bad reputation for breathlessly hyping issues, I’m wary of hurling another log on the Web 2.0 fire. With that said, I honestly believe that developments in the digital media arena over the last few years are significant to the point that they are changing how PR will be defined and practiced in ... Blogging in South Africa is one of the hot topics in Atmosphere at the moment and certainly we're increasingly including key bloggers in our media relations. The interesting thing is that undoubtedly there are some blogs out there with bigger readerships than traditional media that are hardly being noticed by PRs or the rest of the marketing industry. There is also an opportunity for brands to create their own blogs (but I would caution that the content needs to be thought about ... Read More
